The quietest of them seems to be just as fierce in defending his right to a treat, and it doesn't let any of the others take the piece of meat away, leaping up just slightly to catch it mid-air.
"Good! Looks like you're getting the hang of it," he smiles encouragingly, helping Wen Ning distribute a few more pieces of meat through the other dragonlings.
"They learn quickly..." Pride exudes from him in the words. Both for the young dragons and for himself in being able to successfully replicate Jim's method. "You make... a good instructor."
"They're smart little creatures. And you've managed to capture their attention," he says. Even after the meat is gone, it's likely they'll have these little ones chasing them around for a while. This is, after all, a surefire way to create bonds with all kinds of animals.
"Thank you," he smiles. "I'm a little used to it. Kind of comes with the job."
There's a new bit of information. "Ah, you... instruct back home?" He finishes with at least a quarter of the treats, knowing they need to save the rest for making their escape once they return to the dragonling's quarters.
"Well, as Captain I often have to help greener members of my crew with various tasks," he says. "But yes, I've held a few guest lectures and practical exercises, back at the Academy. Apparently I'm very popular, there."
Famous, is probably the more appropriate word. He tends to bring in a lot of cadets, so Starfleet likes to bank on that. Frankly, it's never bothered him much, as he believes in Starfleet and likes being able to speak on its behalf.
"You are a... captain?" No wonder Jim was such a natural leader when it came to the dragons and to responding to the threats within the desert. He would be surprised it has never come up before, but then again, why would it?
"You must give... highly educated lectures. They are... lucky to attend."
"Yes! Of a starship. Wait, I never told you?" Jim has to laugh a little at that, shaking his head. "Damn, I can't believe I never mentioned it. It's literally the coolest thing about me."
Well, he's got a few other selling points, but the starship Captain thing? Definitely up there on the list. "They're... different, I guess. But I'm not really a teacher, and I always hated those stuffy teachers I had back at the Academy. So when I'm invited, I like to make things at least a little interesting."
Wen Ning shakes his head. "What... is a... star ship?" It's so strange that something that clearly excites Jim had never come up. They had talked about so many other things. Maybe it is because that part of Jim had been so natural that he hadn't seen reason to mention it.
